State Signs Second
Negro Athlete
Monday Mississippi State signed
to a grant-in-aid scholarship its
second Negro athlete of the 1968
recruiting season.
He is Robert Bell of Meridian
High School, a Big Eight power.
Bell stands 5 feet, 11 inches
tall and tips the scales at 265
pounds.
The Big Eight Conference performer was related as being 11 a
very fast and valuable player."
Previously, Frank Dowsing of
Tupelo had signed a scholarship
with State and had become the
first Negro athlete on scholarship in the history of the university.
