Road trip proves costly

The Women's Basketball Team,
playing four games in three days, saw
their record fall to 3-5 this past weekend.
The lady Bulldogs travelled .to -Oxford
Thursday, losing 90-77 to Ole Miss prior
to competing in the Memphis Tournament. In Memphis, Coach Libba
Birmingham's squad lost a first round
decision to host Memphis State 77-66
Friday, defeated Union University 77-70
Saturday morning, and then lost to
Volunteer State 101-79 that afternoon to
finish fourth .
In Oxford, Ole Miss bounced back
from a 41-34 halftime deficit to defeat the
lady Bulldogs. Three MSU starters, Tutti
Calhoun, Dana Hathorn, and Susan
Leonard fouled out in the second half.
Overall, State committed 24 fouls to 19
for Ole Miss.
Coach Birmingham attributed the loss
to "bad breaks," and an enthusiastic Ole
Miss crowd. "They didn't hesitate in
letting us know they considered us a cow
college," she said. "We look forward to
when they have to come here and play
before our fans."
MSU's Suzanne Prince led all scorers
with 27 points. Teammate Leonard netted
18 for the lady Bulldogs. Joyce Meek led
Ole Miss scorers with 23 points.
Foul trouble also plagued MSU in the
first round of the Memphis tournament.
The lady Bulldogs blew a three-point
halftime lead as they fell to Mem~
State 74-66. Once again, starters Calhoun
and Hathorn fouled out. Memphis' LYDn
Enzw~iler was the game's leading &Corer
with 26 points. Prince and Leonard led
Mississippi State with 20 points apiece
followed by Calhoun with eight.

Fulton Tuesday to face Itawamba in their
next game. The next,: h(-me action is
Monday at 5:15 p.m. against Mississippi
College in the Starkville High Gym.
