Negro At
May Bring
TO THE EDITOR:
With all due respect to the
MSU football squad, may I state
that the humiliating loss to Louisiana Tech last Saturday merely
serves to magnify an already
acute deficiency of this university; and that d~ficiency is specifically the need to recruit Negro
athletes.
Today Negroes enjoy the facmties of Mississ.ippi State (e.g.,
eating and recreational facmties,
dormitories, and classrooms,);
however, they are not presently
included in the scope of athletics.
It is a certainty that the top
teams in the country have repeatedly included the services of
Negro athletes in their programsu
Why then should our school
not concert an honest effort toward. recruiting Negro athletes?
Therefore, if we are to, in
fact, have an athletic program,
then may it be one dedicated to
obtaining superior high school
and junior college talent regardless of orgin.
