State Convention of Colored Men.
MR. EDITOR: As I was sent by the colored people of Jackson county to the State Convention of colored men, I thought it to be a good medium to give the proceedings of the Convention through your paper, to my constituents and others.
The Convention met at Naughton Hall, in the city of Columbus, and representatives were present from about 35 counties. The Convention was called to order by David Jenkins, Esq., of Columbus, on whose motion Dr. Moses Walker, of Jefferson, was chosen temporary President, and D. S. Bruce of Cadiz, temporary Secretary. The Committee on permanent organization reported through their chairman, John T. Ward, of Columbus, John Watson, of Oberlin, as permanent President, and B. K. Sampson, of Springfield, and Dr. J. McSimpson, of Zanesville, as Secretaries.
