WASHINGTON COUNTY is entitled to three Representatives and the rule has long existed among the Democrats of this county to nominate two white and one colored man. At their last convention W. H. Harris was selected as the colored Representative. While a Republican he is regarded as a very honorable man. It is said of him that during a contest in his county some years ago, the offer was made to relieve his property of a thousand dollar mortgage if he would support the Democratic ticket. He declined the offer, remarking that he was a Republican from principle.
