A letter received at the Times bureau from another point in Mississippi relates the whipping of Dr. Thomas W. Stringer, an educated colored man, about 50 years of age. Dr. Stringer is a minister of the African Colored Church, and is located at Grenada. He has been in Mississippi for several years, has been always recognized as a conservative man, and was in 1873 a candidate on the Democratic State ticket for State Treasurer. He protested in public against the oppression and wrong of which he was daily witness. This gave offense to the Democrats, and he was accordingly whipped.
