North Mississippi Politics.

MT. PLEASANT,
MARSHALL CO., MISS., Oct. 20

Editor Memphis Avalanche:

The Independent Conservatives opened their canvass at this place last night. The Independent Democratic Club, turned our their strength and were addressed by Capt. Ed. Aldrich and Mr. Robert Cunningham, candidate for the Legislature. The speech of Capt. Aldrich was specially interesting, laying bare the bad faith and broken pledges of the ring Democracy of this country. If the opinions expressed at this place are an index to the political sentiment of this county, I predict that the Independents will sweep the county by an overwhelming majority. They have a most excellent ticket in the field, all old and well-known respectable citizens and Democrats, with the exception of one colored candidate (Republican) for the Legislature. I am satisfied at this box fully two-thirds of the white vote will vote the Independent ticket, and the Republicans are almost as great as for their own party heretofore. Truly, N.
