Clipping of the newspaper article "MSU Reacts to King's Death" published in Mississippi State University's student newspaper The Reflector. The article describes the vigil and memorial service that took place on campus at Mississippi State University after Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination. Students attempted to fly the campus flag at half mast in honor of Dr. King over the weekend. Several students on campus continued to raise the flag back up throughout the weekend despite efforts by campus security to stop them.

Five black and white photographs are shown in this clipping from Mississippi State University's student newspaper The Reflector. The first photograph depicts several students standing on the drill field during a vigil for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The second photograph depicts a statue of General Lee facing the American flag being flown at half mast in honor of Dr. King. The third photograph depicts the cracked window of the Chapel of Memories which was damaged during the memorial service for Dr. King. The fourth photograph shows two students tying the rope of the flag after raising it back to the top of the flagpole. The fifth and final photograph depicts the fallen flag pole rope which had been cut to keep the flag from being flown at half mast.
