My Bed: Tracey Emin
Dublin Core
Title
Description
Tracey Emin's "My Bed" (1998) is the artist's actual unmade bed, surrounded by the messy remnants of a period of depression: stained sheets, underwear, condoms, cigarettes, and alcohol bottles. This raw and intimate display offers an unflinching look at vulnerability and emotional turmoil. By presenting her private space so publicly, Emin challenges traditional art boundaries and forces viewers to confront the messy realities of human experience. The work became a significant piece of the YBA movement, sparking debate about personal revelation and the representation of female emotional states in art. It's a starkly honest portrayal of a specific moment in time.
