Earthtime 1.78 Madrid

Dublin Core

Description

Earthtime 1.78 Madrid is part of Janet Echelman’s ongoing Earthtime series—massive aerial sculptures that respond to wind and light. The “1.78” in the title refers to the number of microseconds the Earth’s rotation was altered by the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami. Suspended over Madrid’s Plaza Mayor, the woven form appears to hover and pulse with life, inviting viewers to reflect on the interconnected forces of nature, time, and place.
