Wheatfield—A Confrontation

Dublin Core

Description

In 1982, Agnes Denes created "Wheatfield—A Confrontation," a temporary artwork in which she planted and harvested a two-acre field of golden wheat on a landfill in Lower Manhattan, near Wall Street and the World Trade Center. This unexpected intrusion of nature into the heart of the financial district was a deliberate act of juxtaposition, contrasting the values of commerce and development with the fundamental importance of food production and environmental stewardship.
