Fair Park Lagoon Restoration

Dublin Core

Description

Patricia Johanson's "Fair Park Lagoon Restoration" (1981-1986) is an early example of ecological art where the artist integrated art and infrastructure to restore a degraded urban lagoon in Dallas, Texas. Johanson's design transformed the concrete-lined lagoon into a biologically diverse wetland habitat. The sculptural forms within the restoration project were inspired by native Texas plants and animals, creating both functional ecological elements and aesthetically engaging public art. This project demonstrates the potential for artists to collaborate with engineers and scientists to create environmentally beneficial and visually compelling solutions for urban ecological challenges.
