Description
Stelarc’s performance "Parasite" (1997) involved attaching electrodes to his body, which were connected to a search engine scouring the internet for images of the human body. When a match was found, the system would send an electrical impulse to his muscles, causing involuntary movements. This performance explored the idea of external control over the human body, questioning the boundaries between human agency and technology, and examining the relationship between the human form and digital systems.
