The committee from the African Methodist Church Conference, to appeal to the legislature on behalf of the Alcorn A. & M. College was then introduced to the House. The first speaker was A. B. Poston, who was in 1880 representative from Panola county, and who is a native of this state, and one of the brightest negroes in the state, and he made a really excellent speech, giving good reasons why the legislature should further support the Alcorn A. & M. College.
