<dcterms:description><![CDATA[Jo Smoley's "Green Algae," uploaded in 2015, is an abstract acrylic painting on canvas that uses vibrant emerald and deep, shadowed greens to explore the complex role of algae in aquatic ecosystems. The swirling forms and layered washes evoke both the vitality of algal blooms and their potential impact on water quality and marine life. Textured brushstrokes can be interpreted as representing the intricate, often unseen, processes of photosynthesis and nutrient cycling within these organisms. The painting serves as a visual meditation on the delicate balance of aquatic environments, hinting at the environmental significance of algae, from their role as primary producers to the concerns surrounding harmful algal blooms caused by pollution.]]></dcterms:description>
