Afghan War Rug "Drone Medallion on Sky Blue Field"--Nathan Cole
This wool rug is a traditional Afghan rug made in 2020 by an unknown rug maker, and put for sale on warrug.com. The rug itself is in a Bhukara or Bokara style, named after an old 19th century town. Despite its traditional design it showcases modern symbols of war: drones. Wars in Afghanistan and Pakistan where the United States launched drone strikes inspired traditional rug makers to depict the weapons of war that now shape their countries. Rugs like this one preserve the ancient culture and traditions of Afghan and Pakistani peoples, but also continue to record their history in the face of adversity.
